The Director’s POV: The Screenplay

This course looks at the craft of screenwriting from a different point of view (POV); it explores how directors read scripts and how they find a film in them. Students learn what goes into a film’s preparation, production, and post-production through an examination of Chinatown, Robert Towne’s Oscar-winning original screenplay, which was directed by Roman Polanski. Major Films of the Great Greta Garbo

This course is a biography of film actor Greta Garbo and looks at film clips from Love (1927), Anna Christie (1930), Mata Hari (1931), Grand Hotel (1931), Queen Christine (1933), Camille (1936), Ninotchka (1939), and Two-Faced Woman (1941). It examines what Garbo meant to the film industry, to American culture, and to the modern preoccupation with physical beauty. Part of the Community Classroom Series.
