Distance Learning Courses
The Friday Center offers part-time students an opportunity to earn college credit through two distance learning programs: Self-paced Courses and Carolina Courses Online. These courses are open to anyone who wishes to engage in this method of learning; admission to the University is not required to enroll.
Self-paced Courses
Self-paced Courses is a joint activity involving eight institutions of the University of North Carolina. Self-paced Courses enables individuals to take correspondence or online courses and work at their own pace. Class attendance is not required. The courses do not follow a university calendar, so students can enroll at any time of the year. Nine months are allowed for completion of course work.
Carolina Courses Online
Carolina Courses Online enables individuals with access to the appropriate technology to take semester-based courses online. Class attendance is not required. The course schedule follows the university calendar for the semester in which the course is offered. Students are able to communicate with classmates and their instructor via e-mail and discussion forums.
