Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees must be paid in full at the time of enrollment. Use this button if you have registered and wish to pay your bill using a credit card:

Tuition can be paid by check, money order, or credit card (MasterCard or Visa). Note that debit cards requiring the use of a PIN for all transactions are not accepted. A $25 fee is assessed on all returned checks. Make checks payable to "The Friday Center." UNC employees may use the Employee Tuition Waiver program to cover the cost of tuition and fees.

If you wish to withdraw from your course once you have submitted your enrollment form and payment, you must follow the procedures explained in Withdrawing from Your Course. Stopping payment on a check written to pay for your enrollment does not constitute an official withdrawal and does not relieve you of the responsibility to pay for your enrollment in full. A $25 fee will be assessed if you stop payment on your check. Partial refunds will be granted if you withdraw within 30 days of your enrollment date.

*A student fee of $13.16 per credit hour is charged for each registration. This includes an educational and technology fee, and fees for Administrative Systems, Association of Student Governments, and Student Information System (SIS) registration. UNC employees using the tuition waiver are not required to pay this fee.

The fee for noncredit courses is indicated in the course descriptions. Tuition and other charges are subject to change without notice. Students are responsible for charges that are in effect at the time a transaction occurs.

International Postage for Correspondence Courses

If you live outside the United States, Canada, or Mexico, include an additional $50 per course to cover the cost of mailing graded assignments. This extra charge does not apply to APO and FPO addresses.

Additional shipping charges for textbooks apply for persons residing abroad. If your book order is being shipped outside the continental United States, e-mail meiman@unc.edu or call 919-962-7481 to request a shipping quote.

Additional Fees

Additional charges apply for:

  • extending your enrollment period
  • transferring from one course to another
  • reworked assignments. Occasionally, your instructor may ask you to rework an assignment. If this occurs, you are expected to pay the actual cost of having your work graded again. You will be notified of this cost and should send in payment with your reworked assignment.

Possible Fee Associated with Verifying Student Identity: If you take a course that requires a proctored exam, please be aware that you may be charged a fee for proctoring your exam by the site where you arrange to take the exam. The use of proctored examinations is one method UNC uses to verify that the students who get credit for a course are the ones who took the course.
